Walk on the Wild Side – Platypus Whispers

August 2 @ 7:30 am - 9:30 am AEST

Friday 2 August

Neil Andison, the acclaimed Platypus Whisperer, will share with you the (not so) secret life of the platypus in its natural habitat – more than 90% likelihood you will see this rare egg-laying mammal (a monotreme) in the wild.

Terms and conditions:

  • Recommended to wear sturdy walking shoes and bringing along water, a hat and insect repellent.
  • Children should be closely supervised in this nature-based experience for the health and safety of all participants and the wildlife.

People with accessibility needs:

  • How far to the carpark area? – Up to 100 metres to car-parking; uneven surfaces but wheelchair accessible.
  • Is it mostly flat? – Yes, we follow the council Maleny Trail pathway.
  • Are there any inclines or hills? – The walk is classified as a Class1 walking track and as such is predominantly flat with the occasional bump or lump.
  • Could someone with a walker or walking stick access it? – We have had several people with walking difficulties on previous tours and all have been able to complete the tour with little or no difficulty.
  • Are there spots to stop along the way; is there seating to have a break? – There are 4 spots along the way which provide seating, the tour will stop at any time to accommodate peoples needs.
  • How long is the walk? – In distance, just over 2.5 kilometers, and in time, allow approximately 3 hours. Regular stops along the way for people to catch their breath if need be, and to give time to extol the virtues of our wonderfully diverse corner of the world.
  • Would it be walking in a single file? – The pathways are all capable of accommodating 2 people side by side, if we meet someone coming the other way we stop allow them to pass and continue on.
  • Is the ground solid (as much as possible) or loose terrain? – The ground is for the most part very solid with a very short “20 metre” stretch of reasonably solid fine gravel pathway.
